I regret to say BSC wall calendars are now sold out but desk calendars are still available from Marlyn Sinclair or can be ordered in the lobby. Marilyn will be at the midweek lunch on the 15th Dec and orders can also be taken then. If anyone was still hoping to book for the mid week lunch I regret to say, by very popular demand, it is now fully booked and apologise for any disappointment.
The annual Macmillan Coffee morning run in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support took place on Sunday. The day proved very successful with nearly £1200 being raised for the charity - an increase on last year. Once again the teas, coffees, and cakes proved very popular with bacon butties a welcome addition to the day.
Marilyn expresses a "huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along today to help and for all your work leading up to ‘the day’ itself. "
The 'Guess the cake weight' was won by Alan Hoy, while the huge teddy was named 'Richard' by our Vice Commodore.
Work Parties will be starting soon and will be on Sundays
Please put these dates in your diaries. Work parties start at 10.00hrs and bring gloves and wear stout boots and warm protective clothing. Free lunch and refreshments will be provided.
This is an excellent opportunity to meet members from all sections of the Club. The more people who turn up, the more we can get done and the more we can keep costs down and avoid hiring external contractors resulting in lower subscriptions!
See you then!
Our first work party of the winter enjoyed good weather with gentle breezes - just right for tree felling!
A good turn-out of over twenty five members deployed themselves around the club house and grounds working on tasks including tree felling, weeding the dinghy road trailer area, preparing to fit new webcams and weather station sensors, shrub pruning and refreshing the terrace planters with winter pansys, litterpicking (lots of discarded white tape used for recording dinghy courses).
One interesting find was this Wayfarer forestay which had become anchored to one of the felled trees - how long would that take?
Next work party is 6 Nov, starting at 0930 - all are welcome and will be rewarded with tea, coffee and a hot soup and home-made pudding lunch.
We are introducing a booking and boat usage system for the club boats via a folder that will be kept in the lobby. The folder allows you to book boats in advance and to record every time a club boat is used.
There is a section for you to note any damaged or missing item so that we can keep track on what work, if any, is required (and when you have fixed it yourself). You must enter your details every time you use one of the following club boats. Wayfarers, GP 14s, Mirrors, Toppers (at the top not the lake boats) 420s and Fevas. This is to help us understand exactly how often these club assets are used and to make sure that any required work is known about before the next person tries to take a boat out.
So enjoy your sailing and please make sure that you record your use of the boats each time you take them out so that others can enjoy theirs as well.
