  • Cadet registration for Training Weekend 2

This is our 2nd full training weekend of the year.  You can book individual days rather than the whole weekend, the cost is £10 per day or £18 for both days.

We have no control on the weather so cadets will need appropriate clothing for the potential conditions, if you are unsure what you will need ask. Cadets that turn up with inadequate clothing may not be allowed to sail.

Note this is a non catered event, please bring your own packed lunch and lots of cake.

We will be running the following groups, subject to numbers and instructor availability:

  • Sprites Complete beginners, no experience required, and minimum age 8. An instructor will lead the group with an assistant instructor, the maximum number of cadets will be 12. The aim of the group is to introduce the cadets to sailing in a safe controlled manner.

Cadets do not need their own boats as we will be using the clubs training Optimists, although the younger cadets in this group may double up.

  • Jolly Sailors Cadets with some experience who have completed a year’s sailing. An instructor will lead the group with an assistant instructor, the maximum number of cadets will be 12. The aim of the group will be to build on the experience from last year and aim to get their RYA Level 1 certificate.

Cadets do not need their own boat for this group but it is preferable for them to have one as they will progress a lot quicker in their own boat.

  • Lilt Cadets who have completed their RYA Level 1 and are building to join one of the river training groups. An instructor will lead the group with an assistant instructor; the maximum number of cadets will be 12. The aim of the group will be to build on their experience, start completing the skills required for their RYA Level 2 and get them to a position where they are confident to join one of the river training groups.

It is not essential that a cadet has their own boat to join this group but as the club does not have any Optimists that can go on the river it is recommended that cadets in this group have their own boat as progression will be restricted without one.

  • Oppie Over the Wall RYA Instructor led instruction for Optimist sailors who were in Lilt last year or have equivalent experience. As the training is taking place on the river you must have your own boat to be part of this group. The group will be working to achieve their RYA Level 2 badge, see link at the bottom of this document for details.

  • Oppie Tango RYA Instructor led instruction for Optimist sailors. As the training is taking place on the river you must have your own boat to be part of this group. The group will be working to achieve their RYA Level 3 badge, see link at the bottom of this document for details.Sailors wanting to join this group should have as a minimum their RYA Level 2 and have completed one season sailing Optimists on the river.

  • Optimist MG This group will be lead by an RYA coach and will focus on developing racing skills, inclusion in this group is by invitation. Cadets must have their own boat to take part in this group

  • Topper/Tera in the Hole: suitable for cadets that  have achieved Level 1 in Optimists, cadets will be working towards their Level 2 Badge. Cadets need their own boat or to have booked one of the club Toppers for the weekend.

    • Laser MG This group will be lead by an RYA coach and will focus on developing racing skills, inclusion in this group is by invitation. Cadets must have their own boat to take part in this group
    • Feva MG RYA Coach led race coaching for Feva sailors, the coaches will be covering the same subjects as the Laser coaching described above. This will be taking place on the river and you must have your own boat or have reserved one of the two club Fevas that can be used on the river, in addition to join this group you must have a designated helm and crew ahead of the training weekend. The group will be focussing on developing their racing skills. Sailors wanting to join this group should have as a minimum their RYA Level 3 and have completed at least one season racing in Toppers or Fevas.

To make our training weekends  a success we need the parents of cadets to help out over the weekend. We have a range of duties to choose from, all the duties with the exception of the galley require parents/guardians to be willing to get wet to at least the waist (you will need suitable clothing not supplied) and you will be required to help launch/move boats around. Please complete the form with your preferred duty.

Please do not book places for cadets other than those you are guardians for.
