The third Cadet Training Weekend was one to remember, marked by sunshine, strong winds, and impressive adaptability from sailors and instructors alike.
With gust reaching 36 knots, conditions on Saturday required some quick thinking from the Chief Instructor, Cadet Skipper and all the Dinghy Instructors, who made the call to move some of the less experienced river sailors to the lake for safety. Despite the change in plans, the lake was buzzing with activity and enthusiasm. Even our youngest sailors—some as young as eight and complete novices—were able to learn how to steer a boat and perform their first tacks. It was inspiring to see such rapid progress in just one day.

Out on the river, the more experienced cadets faced the challenge head-on. The strong winds tested their skills, but most found the fast conditions thrilling and rose to the occasion. A few opted to return to the calmer lake, highlighting the club's commitment to flexibility and safety without compromising on fun or learning.

Sunday brought calmer winds and the welcome return to the original training plans, coinciding with an RYA inspection. The inspectors were highly impressed by the quality of instruction and enthusiasm across the board.
With preparations for Cadet Week now in full swing—involving coordination of instructors, training groups, activities, food, merchandise, and more—the excitement is building. It's the highlight of the cadet calendar and promises to be a fantastic celebration of everything the section has achieved so far this year.
Well done to all the cadets, volunteers, and instructors for a brilliant weekend of learning, resilience, and fun on the water.
