friday sailors: ADULT SOCIAL SAILING

If you are free on Friday mornings and would like to sail, drink tea and eat cake, then this group is for you! Friday Sailors are a friendly, mixed group who warmly welcome new members to enjoy and improve their sailing in a social manner.  There are experienced sailors, people who wish to improve skills or confidence, and complete novices. Any adult BSC member is welcome (bring cake!) and your children can come too in school holidays.

Members of the Friday Group own a range of boats including Mirrors, Toppers, Lasers, Sprites, Wayfarers, GP14s, Wanderers, Tideways, a couple of Drascombe Dabbers and a Cruiser or two so there are opportunities to sail in all different sorts of craft.  The Club owns a variety of boats including 4 RS Quests, 6 RS Zests for members' so you don't need to have a boat when you join.

The Friday Sailors have their own class identity for organised racing (The Cup Cake Class) and some magnificent Trophies to aspire to. Everyone is also encouraged to take part in regular club races and events, especially Club Week.  On weekends, Friday Sailors are encouraged to join the Short Course racing which is a great way to get into racing.

The Class Captain is Julie Nelson (who is also the Hon. Warden) and she does a fantastic job organising our activities, both on the social side and on the water. She also produces a weekly lighthearted and very amusing report on our activities. This is circulated via the Friday Sailors Message Board (Forum) and WhatsApp Group and is very popular with a vast array of BSC members. She can also advise novices on suitable attire for joining in.

Friday Sailors regularly make use of the three Club RS Quest dinghies which are ideal for 'training'. We have a number of qualified RYA dinghy instructors within our ranks, but all Friday Sailing training is 'informal' -  you can start by crewing or we can help rig and launch your own boat . You'll be warmly  encouraged  with the Friday Sailors motto ringing in your ears  - "You'll be fine!"  A willingness to just 'have a go' and a good sense of humour is all that is required to learn with us. For more formal training opportunities follow the Sailing School link below.
