The Cadet section of the Club caters for all young sailors aged 8 to 18 years. We are a very busy bunch and rely on volunteering parents to help out at our many events and training activities throughout the year. We don't do 'drop and shop' at the BSC - all our Cadet must have at least one parent (their 'responsibile adult') who is also a Club Member and willing to be on site helping as necessary.
The Cadet section is run by the Hon. Cadet Skipper, Don Aers and his Deputy, Rob Haigh and a Cadet Managment Committee which includes input from the Cadets themselves. A Cadet Commodore, Vice Commodore and Committee are elected by the other Cadets annually.
The Cadet Committee are all of sixth form age and help with the running of all training, racing and social events throughout the year alongside the parent volunteers. Some of our older Cadets go on to become qualified sailing instructors and continue to help out with Cadet training.
Parents need to register their Cadet(s) and pay a small fee in advance to attend training weekends and Cadet social events. A further registration charge, payable on booking, is made for the famous week long summer 'Cadet Week'. This fee includes food, drinks, a T-shirt and all sailing and social activities for the Cadets, along with free lunch for parent helpers.
